The Brief

Marlin Hawk was engaged by a global leader in secondary wireless consumer electronics products based in the United States. With international expansion programs in Asia, China had been identified as the key market to enter, with promising business opportunities established over the last 12 months. The hire of a CEO based in China, to define and execute the companies business plans was pivotal.

The Approach

The China operation would be a start-up business for the company. Our search strategy was focused on identifying the ideal profile of a results-oriented commercial leader with a track record in successfully building businesses and teams from scratch. This proven hands-on leader needed to have experience in navigating ambiguities and operating in a lean, small organization where the business is starting from greenfield status. The candidate also needed to demonstrate proven past success in building partnerships, channels, teams and scaled growth over time. Industries targeted included hi-tech, consumer electronics, telco and wireless mobile manufacturers, manufacturing and internet e-commerce business.

The Result

The placement candidate had a successful career in building businesses in China, with a Chinese local brand, as well as managing a significant JV with a European consumer electronics manufacturer. He had also been successful in diversifying from offline to online ecommerce business, with B2B and B2C marketplaces, a key channel in servicing partners and customers. His early career was with a global mobile handset player, in product marketing and category management in Asia.
