People Journey Series | Ceylan Higgins, Principal, London
by Ceylan Higgins
We take a look behind the corporate bios of our team to uncover what drives them in their careers and why they continue to choose Marlin Hawk. Second in our People Journey Series is Ceylan Higgins, Principal in London.
01. Tell us about your career to date with Marlin Hawk.
As a Principal, I lead executive recruitment and strategic intelligence projects across our Consumer, Telecommunications, and Media, Entertainment & Sports practices. We uniquely partner with both public-listed and fast growth technology companies, which specifically need our help in hiring digital talent. Every day I speak with some of the most respected leaders in these industries, advising them on hiring rising talent, diversity and inclusion, as well as market trends. Watching your placements make a significant impact in driving digital transformation makes this an incredibly rewarding role.
02. What attracted you to Marlin Hawk? And how have we delivered on expectations?
Firstly, discovering Marlin Hawk’s track record. Since its inception, Marlin Hawk has supported companies across a wide range of industries, specifically partnering on how to digitise. This gives us a unique position to encourage cross-sector hiring and I find this fascinating. Too often it can be so easy for executive search firms to hire someone with industry experience into an organisation in that same industry. That is not the case with Marlin Hawk. The research teams are trained to think outside of the box - a rare quality to find in executive search. Our industry expertise is broad and we challenge our clients to think differently. Then the results speak for themselves; over 40% of our placements are hiring talent into different industries. Secondly, I was blown away by the high quality talent within the research team. The detail that goes into our reports is a major differentiator. We tell a story about what is happening in the market, how the client brand is perceived and where to find rising talent; this truly sets us apart.
03. What has been your greatest achievement so far?
From a client perspective, seeing my placements add tremendous impact in digitalising our clients is my greatest achievement. From a people perspective, supporting Marlin Hawk in strengthening and evolving its research methodologies has been a personal success. The company gives you the artistic licence to change elements of the business. The leadership team welcomes change. Creative minds who want to re-think executive search work well with our culture.
04. What or who has helped you along the way?
The leadership team has been instrumental in my growth, both professionally and personally. My promotion to Principal would not have been a successful transition without their counsel. There is a saying in Marlin Hawk, “if you are good enough, you are old enough”. The business recognises talent and encourages you to grow.
05. How would you describe the culture at Marlin Hawk?
Immeasurably supportive, ambitious, positively disruptive, analytical and competitive. We hire bright minded individuals who want to re-think the future of executive search. We do not follow traditions. That makes our culture intrapreneurial in many ways. Likewise, it’s a very collaborative business. And of course we also like to relax from time to time and socialise after work in the city!
