How good do you want to be?

The best is a good starting point.

Challenge

Marlin Hawk was commissioned to work with one of the top 5 mobile operators in the world whose group company has a true global presence, representing a large proportion of the GDP of the economies of the countries where it operates in.

After being promoted to Group COO and Member of the Board, our client embarked on one of the largest restructures in the companies history to improve performance and reduce costs.

We were commissioned to find the top people globally whether they existed within the organisation or if they needed to be head hunted from a competitor to fit into the new organisation structure.

Marlin Hawk benchmarked the Group IT COO’s direct reports, and the 2 layers below in the local and international operations. This was a transparent process, and the individual’s were informed that they were being assessed against the current roles, and any roles they were applying for in the new structure.

These individuals were then benchmarked against their peers working for competitors globally which we did by mapping the competitors as well as a select group of companies outside the telecoms world.

The restructure was focused on centralising all the individual country functions to single group functions starting off with
Group Demand Director
Group Strategy Director and the direct reports
Group Technical Director
CIO Ireland

Solution

We were commissioned to find the top people globally whether they existed within the organisation or if they needed to be head hunted from a competitor to fit into the new organisation structure.

Result

Marlin Hawk benchmarked the Group IT COO’s direct reports, and the 2 layers below in the local and international operations. This was a transparent process, and the individual’s were informed that they were being assessed against the current roles, and any roles they were applying for in the new structure.

These individuals were then benchmarked against their peers working for competitors globally which we did by mapping the competitors as well as a select group of companies outside the telecoms world.

Based on this exercise Marlin Hawk performed a RAG status on the internal individuals and identified to the COO which individual’s matched the new roles, and Head Hunted the global leaders for the open roles.

We then sat down with the Group IT COO to determine what would be the best strategy and structure moving forward for the company to enable them to be the best in the market place.

Two placements where then delivered in the COO space.

Marlin Hawk was also responsible for providing detailed feedback to internal individual’s who were not appointed for the roles they applied for.
